Rules
Deadwood Knock
Deadwood Knock is a rummy-meets-poker card game set along the wild trail of the Old West.
Face off against historic gamblers, outlaws, lawmen, saloon keepers, and frontier legends as you battle through more than 40 real boomtowns and more than 200 authentic table locations.
Win your way from dusty cowtowns to mining camps, from border saloons to outlaw hideouts, and try to reach the final table in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Goal
Build the best poker hand you can and keep deadwood (unused cards) low.
Setup
- Players: 2–6 · Deck: 54 cards (includes 2 Jokers) · Play 10 rounds.
- Deal 8 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face down as the Stock.
- Flip 1 card face up to start the Discard pile.
- Aces are high for poker hands, may be low in A-2-3-4-5 straights, and are worth 1 point as deadwood.
Your Turn
- Select: 1 card to discard from your hand.
- Draw 1 card: take the top Discard or draw the top Stock card.
- Place: your discard card face up onto the Discard pile.
Knock (End the Round)
- At the start of your turn, you may Knock instead of discarding & drawing.
- You may Knock only if your current deadwood is under 12 points.
- When you Knock, you do not discard or draw.
- After a Knock, each other player takes one final normal turn (Discard + Draw or Stand).
Call the Knock (Side Bet)
- After the final discard, each non-knocker chooses Call or Fold.
- Call: you’re in the poker pot. Fold: you’re out of the pot.
- “In” players ante 10 points to the pot.
- The pot is based only on the poker hand; deadwood does not count.
- Best poker hand among “in” players wins the pot. Ties split it.
Showdown
- Select your best poker hand.
- Straights, flushes, and straight flushes may use 6–8 cards.
- Low-Ace straights may extend below 5, such as 7-6-5-4-3-2-A.
- Extra cards used in a long straight or flush do not count as deadwood.
- Hand points and poker-pot comparisons still use the best 5-card version of the long hand.
- All other cards are deadwood.
- Jokers cannot be used in the poker hand.

Poker Pot
- The poker pot is a zero-sum side bet and ignores deadwood.
- If nobody calls, the knocker gets +10.
- If one or more players call, each “in” player risks 10.
- Best poker hand among “in” players wins the pot. Ties split it.
- Folded players are out of the pot and score 0 from the side bet.
Sleight of Hand
- If enabled, each player may once per round palm the buried discard: the card directly beneath the top discard.
- You must choose your discard before palming, and the discard pile must have at least 3 cards.
- Palming removes the top discard as cover and gives you the buried card beneath it. You cannot knock that turn.
- If you palm and you do not win or tie the round, you take a -5 Suspicion penalty.
Win
Highest total score after 10 rounds wins.
